Part 2. The Filipino Way: Determination

Part 2. The Filipino Way: Determination

The Philippines is an emerging or third-world country, so it does not provide the bountiful opportunities that a modern country like Australia can. Thus, for Filipinos to have an enriched life, they must be super determined to reach their life goals.

Determination is the ability to persist and overcome obstacles to achieve a goal. We Filipinos are known for our strong work ethic, perseverance, and ability to overcome challenges. This trait is evident in various aspects of our lives, born from our drive to provide a better life for our family.

With our relentless determination, we have proven that nothing is impossible. We don’t give up when the odds are against us. We work hard, smart, and stay focused on our goals. This trait has enabled us to up our game and reach the heights of success in business, sports, and more.

One of the Philippines’ best success stories is Henry Sy (unfortunately, not a relative of mine despite having the same surname). He started with a small shoe store in Manila and built it into a mall giant—SM, which now has over 200 locations throughout the Philippines. Unfortunately, he recently passed away with a net worth of over 19 Billion USD, making him the wealthiest person in the Philippines. Another hugely successful Filipino is Manny Pacquiao, one of the world’s most successful boxers. He is known worldwide for his determination and grit.

Determination and grit are highly sought after by Australian employers, and we Filipinos have this in spades!
